Memocept Side Effects and Interactions to Know

Quick answer

Memocept side effects come from what its ingredients can do.

Arginine and citrulline may lower blood pressure, which matters if you take blood pressure medication, nitrates or sildenafil, and arginine is not advised after a recent heart attack. Stomach upset and headache are possible, and each capsule adds 7.5 mg NE of niacin.

If any of this applies to you, ask a doctor first and see who Memocept is for.

The short version

What side effects can Memocept cause?

Memocept has no safety study of its own, so its possible side effects come from what is known about its ingredients. The main ones are lower blood pressure, stomach upset, headache and, in theory, niacin flushing.

The amounts per capsule are small. Most side effects in the research showed up at gram-level doses, many times what one capsule holds. Small does not mean zero, though, and a few groups need a doctor's view before they start.

Before you take it

Memocept is a dietary supplement, not a drug. Arginine and citrulline can lower blood pressure: ask your doctor first if you take blood pressure medicine, nitrates or erectile dysfunction medicine, or if you have had a heart attack. Niacin is 47% of the Daily Value per capsule, so count it with any multivitamin. See side effects and interactions.

Every amount discussed below comes from the published panel. You can check each line on the Supplement Facts page.

Blood pressure

Can Memocept lower blood pressure?

It might, a little, in some people. Arginine and citrulline both help the body make nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels. Each capsule holds 400 mg of arginine and 200 mg of citrulline across two forms each.

In trials, 4 to 24 grams of arginine a day lowered systolic blood pressure by about 5.4 mmHg (Dong et al., 2011). Citrulline at 3 to 9 grams a day lowered it by about 4.1 mmHg (Barkhidarian et al., 2019). Memocept's amounts are far below those ranges.

For a healthy adult, a small drop is unlikely to be felt. The concern is people whose blood pressure is already being lowered by a drug. Adding anything that pushes the same way can tip it too low. Signs include dizziness, lightheadedness when standing up, and fainting.

Interactions

Who should check with a doctor before taking Memocept?

Anyone on medicine should ask first, as the label says. The table lists the groups where the ingredient sources give a specific reason.

Heart history

Why is arginine a concern after a heart attack?

Mayo Clinic advises against arginine after a recent heart attack (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). The reason traces back to one trial with a worrying result.

The VINTAGE MI trial

In 2006, 153 people who had just had a heart attack took 3 grams of arginine three times a day, or a placebo. Arginine showed no benefit. Six people on arginine died and none on placebo did, so the trial was stopped early (Schulman et al., 2006).

That trial used 9 grams a day, more than 20 times the arginine in one Memocept capsule. Nobody has tested whether a small dose carries the same risk. With a result like that, the safe path is clear: if you have heart disease of any kind, let your cardiologist decide.

Stomach and head

Can Memocept upset your stomach or cause headaches?

It is possible. Mayo Clinic lists nausea, diarrhea, bloating and headache as arginine side effects (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). The NIH exercise fact sheet notes stomach upset mostly at 9 to 30 grams a day (ODS, Exercise supplements).

At 400 mg of arginine, stomach trouble is less likely, but people vary. Some are sensitive to any new capsule.

  • Take the capsule with a meal, as the brand graphic suggests.
  • Drink a full glass of water with it.
  • If symptoms keep coming back, stop and talk to your doctor.

Niacin

Can the niacin in Memocept cause flushing?

Not at one capsule alone, in most people. Flushing is the reason the upper limit for niacin from supplements is set at 35 mg a day (ODS, Niacin). One Memocept capsule has 7.5 mg NE, well under that line.

The risk comes from stacking. Many multivitamins and B-complex products carry their own niacin. Add the numbers from every label you take.

Example multivitamin20 mg27.5 mg
Example B-complex25 mg52.5 mg, over the limit
Upper limit from supplements35 mgSet to avoid flushing (ODS, Niacin)

Flushing feels like warmth, redness, itching or tingling in the face and chest. It usually fades within an hour.

Beta-alanine

Does the beta-alanine in Memocept cause tingling?

Unlikely at this amount. Tingling in the skin is the main side effect of beta-alanine, but it shows up at far higher doses (Trexler et al., 2015). The NIH sheet notes it from about 800 mg (ODS, Exercise supplements). Memocept has 40 mg, one-twentieth of that.

The label

What safety warnings are printed on the Memocept label?

The label carries two warning lines, quoted word for word below.

Caution (as printed)

"Do not exceed recommended dose. Not for use by individuals under the age of 18 or pregnant or nursing mothers. Consult with a physician prior to use especially if you are taking a medication or have a medical condition."

The second line is in capitals: "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DO NOT USE IF SAFETY SEAL IS DAMAGED OR MISSING."

Check the seal each time you open a new bottle. If it is torn, loose or absent, do not take the capsules. Call +1 (507) 448-8190 with your order ID instead, so the desk can sort out a replacement or refund.

The label also asks you not to exceed the dose. Taking two capsules does not add proven benefit, and it doubles the niacin and amino acids.

If it happens

What should you do if you get a side effect from Memocept?

Stop taking it and note what happened. Most mild effects fade once you stop.

  1. Stop the capsules

Do not take the next one until you know what caused the symptom.

  2. Get help if it is serious

For fainting, chest pain or trouble breathing, call 911.

  3. Tell your doctor

Bring the bottle so they can see every ingredient and amount.

  4. Report it to FDA

Serious reactions to supplements can be reported through FDA's MedWatch program (FDA, Supplement Q&A).

  5. Ask about a refund

Inside the window, call +1 (507) 448-8190 with your order ID. The refund policy has the steps.
